Premier High School Austin Wells Branch performs various drills each month. In the event a drill is occurring while visitors are on campus, the drill may not be interrupted and visitors must follow drill procedures. 

 

Student safety on campus and at school-related events is a high priority of the school. Although the school has implemented safety procedures, the cooperation of students is essential to ensure school safety. A student should:

  1. avoid conduct that is likely to put the student or other students at risk;
  2. follow the behavioral standards in this Handbook, including the Student Code of Conduct, as well as any additional rules for behavior and safety set by the Campus Director, teachers, or school staff;
  3. remain alert to and promptly report to school staff safety hazards, such as intruders on campus and threats made by any person toward a student or school staff;
  4. know emergency evacuation routes and signals;
  5. immediately follow the instructions of school staff who are overseeing the welfare of students; and
  6. make anonymous reports about school safety concerns by contacting the Executive Director of Safety and Security, Steve Chaney, at (972) 316-3663 ext. 261, [email protected].

What can I do in an emergency?

Regardless of how old you are, the best thing that you can do in an emergency is stay calm and listen to those in authority. Follow instructions from your teachers or first responders and do exactly as they’ve asked. It’s important to take drills seriously and report any security concerns to school administrators. If you see something, say something! If you see a social media post which is unsettling to you, or hear an alarming statement made by another student, report it immediately. You can confide in any trusted adult, including teachers, school counselors, school resource officers, etc. Additionally, older students can take training courses such as CPR, Stop the Bleed, CERT training, or online classes through FEMA’s Independent Learning platform. 

 

Why is having a plan important?

An organized safety plan will help keep your child(ren) safe during emergencies which may occur while on school property. By conducting drills and having emergency operations plans on every campus, it is the goal of the District to be prepared for any incident which may occur. Our safety department is passionate about educating students, staff, and parents to promote a culture of preparedness which will lessen the impact when disaster strikes.
