October 26, 2020

Hello Families,

Happy Monday! I hope everyone is having a great start to the week. I just wanted to send a few updates to help us plan ahead, in addition, we wanted to remind our families about Red Ribbon Week. We encourage you to join us by showing your School Spirit too! Let's see those pictures!

Friday we launched Red Ribbon Week with a School Assembly. We had such a great time with our virtual and on campus students! We also celebrated our Perfect Attendance students, we had 37 students with perfect attendance, WOW! Keep up the great work. I want to thank our kids who created videos and sent pictures to help us launch this event. I encourage your kids to keep sending those pictures this week so we can have a great Friday recap this week!

See videos below.

  • Tuesday - Wear your Team Jersey

  • Wednesday - Wear your craziest Socks

  • Thursday - Throwback Thursday - Dress Like a Past Decade

  • Friday - Flannel Friday

Teachers will continue to reach out to families this week and provide at least 5 affirmations, that's 5 families per class that should receive that special phone call. Don't worry if you don't get a call, this will continue from week to week so EVERYONE will get an affirmation call from their teacher this semester!

It's hard to believe we have 8 school weeks left until the end of the semester (Jan 8th). Please help us in motivating our kids to finish the semester strong! We need to be earning 2.5-3.5 credits by January 8th. Students with attendance problems, not making academic progress or meeting the required two tests per week are being assigned Friday and/or Saturday tutorials. Please note, this is required. See more.

This is a message to All Premier Families. I encourage you to please join the meeting this Thursday, October 29th at 6pm. All families will be receiving an invitation tomorrow regarding our Title I meeting. Title I is a federal program that provides funds to school districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children who are disadvantaged to support a variety of services. Its overall purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments. If you haven't attended a virtual meeting, this is one of the most important meetings this year. Please plan on attending.

October 19, 2020

Hello Parents/Guardians and Students,

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great start to the week. I just wanted to send a few updates to help us plan for the week, in addition, we wanted to remind our families about Capturing Kids' Hearts and how you can help us at home.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a teaching and learning program and process. The social and environmental pressures on our kids are immense, and they affect the quality of the classroom environment, even the virtual environment. Our Premier Teachers use tools and techniques used in the Capturing Kids’ Hearts process that help build a positive, loving culture at Premier High School. This program has provided teachers, staff and administrators specific skills to help them build meaningful relationships with every student and coworker – no exceptions. The strong, positive relationships become a springboard to academic progress. Teachers will use team-building skills to enrich learning and specific techniques to combat negative behavior. Our teachers are encouraged to follow the below steps outlined in The EXCEL Teaching Model™ which helps them prepare when engaging with their students each time they come together, from the beginning of class to the end. This is one of the reasons why we have three separate engagements throughout the class session.

E: Engage by greeting staff and students

X: eXplore by finding the needs and interest of students

C: Communicate by showing you care. Listening, non verbal communication

E: Empower which means giving kids ownership of their learning, and

L: Launch. Ending powerfully.

This week teachers have been asked to create their Social Contracts. This is something that we normally do within two-three weeks of the start of the school year but with schedule changes and campus testing we delayed the process. Please encourage your child to be engaged and open throughout this process.

Teachers have also been challenged to reach out to families this week and provide at least 5 affirmations, that's 5 families per class that should receive that special phone call. Don't worry if you don't get a call, this will continue from week to week so EVERYONE will get an affirmation call from their teacher this semester!

In the meantime, take a moment and write a note to your child and leave it somewhere unexpected. I even challenge you to send a nice note or email to your child's teacher, they need affirmations too! For more on Capturing Kids' Hearts, click here.

Dear Panthers, Parents & Guardians,

We are excited to be moving into Phase 2 on Monday, October 5th. As we prepare to return to campus please ensure that you have submitted the Return to Campus Survey emailed last week. The deadline to request a method of learning is Tomorrow, Monday, September 28th.

As we move into Week 4 of Remote Learning please be mindful of attendance and student productivity. Our first two weeks were focused on engaging and ensuring students had the correct courses. Now that students have had some practice, our expectations will continue to increase. Parents should be expecting teacher emails at the end of each week moving forward, the email will contain student attendance and weekly progress.

Attendance will continue to be a multi-step process, students are expected to attend their live sessions, work on their online courses or Knowledge Units daily and turn in assignments before midnight. For most of our students, the school day at Premier High School is only four hours. Parents, we urge you to join forces with us to eliminate absences that can be prevented by making every effort to schedule medical and other appointments outside of your students four hour schedule and by making sure your children get plenty of sleep so they arrive at school on time ready and eager to learn. Give your child every opportunity to succeed at Premier High School and graduate with success, by encouraging your child to attend school on time, every day because “Every Day Matters!” Please visit our Attendance Matters initiative webpage.

Please call the school or email medical notes to

If your student is struggling to engage or absences seem to be an issue please feel free to schedule a call or visit with Ms. Jones our Engagement Specialist.

Premier High School is a mastery based program. It is crucial that your student manage a pace in order to earn 3-3.5 credits at the end of each semester. This will ensure that the student is promoted to the next grade level and can graduate on time. Please see the expectations guide in order for students to manage daily learning expectations. To view our Student Daily Expectations Guide please click here. Parents are also welcome to schedule a parent/teacher meeting anytime by reaching our to their child's teacher.

If your student requested an elective(s), those courses were entered over the weekend. Please ask your child to review their courses and if questions please ask them to reach out to Mr. Gonzalez. If your student has not requested an elective by tomorrow at noon, an elective will be selected for them.

Premier High School Austin (Wells Branch) Class of 2021 will hold its' first class meeting on Thursday, Oct 1, 2020. All students who anticipate graduating by the end of this school year are expected to attend. Even if you are still a Junior, but have a reasonable expectation that you will complete your school work this year, you should attend. AM and PM students will both attend the same meeting. This will be the first of several very important meetings this school year. To attend, please complete this Class of 2021 Registration Form. This will be a virtual meeting on Google Meets.

Every Thursday, the Campus Director will be hosting a one hour live zoom session for parents. Sessions will cover important activities coming up or How To Sessions. At the end of each session, parents will be able to ask Ms. Phillips any questions related to Covid-19, academics, testing, etc.

This weeks session, the Campus Director will host the meeting on Wednesday due to the Senior Meeting. This weeks meeting will cover how to login to the Genius Parent Portal to help parents monitor student progress.

First Week of Remote Learning at PHS!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We completed our FIRST WEEK back and our students did awesome! I was able to join some live sessions and saw students engaging! I also received great feedback from our Teachers!

Thank you for all your support as we ended a great first week of school. While we did experience some technology issues and course assignment hiccups, our students were great and understanding. I am confident that it will just get better each week as everyone adjusts to their new routines!

Overall, our students and teachers remain positive and willing to work through the new challenges that come with remote learning.

We are finalizing all course assignments and students should be enrolled in all four of their core courses by Monday, September 14th. Next week, students will receive their elective course selection sheets. Mr. Gonzalez will be working with students in all grades next week on this process.

Next week teachers will be providing students with their Academic Schedules. Due to remote learning, our goal is to ensure that students receive the academic support they need. In order to do this, our academic schedule will be more structured. Please contact your students’ teacher if you have any questions.

Remote learning is challenging, because of this PHS Austin North requires students to engage in Live Google Meet Sessions during their blocked scheduled time. This process is extremely important, it fosters a positive relationship between students and teachers, it improves student performance and it reduces the sense of isolation. We ask that parents help their student understand the value that these engagement strategies are for them and please encourage your students to attend, be respectful and participate when asked.

Students are expected to attend their live sessions, work on their online courses/Knowledge Units daily and turn in assignments, just as they would during a more traditional school year. Attendance during remote learning is based on engagement. This year we are using Google Meets, Google Classroom, Google Chat, Genius and BrightThinker. If a student has technology issues please reach out to your teacher as soon as possible to avoid becoming absent. Students can contact teachers by email or Google chat. Please go to Panther Connect or the Staff website for teacher contact information.

Quick Tip: Does your student have a cell phone with a Wi-Fi? Google Chat, Google Meet, Google Classroom Apps can be downloaded to student cell phones for quick access. All students with a ResponsiveEd student email account have access to these Google Apps. Go to your phones App Play Store.

Please remember, PHS is a mastery based program, students’ grades reflect mastery of subject content and submission of Unit Tests. Students must work daily to stay on pace. Please ask your teacher to share the student rubric. Teachers will keep students and families informed on their progress.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and Go Panthers!

Dear PHS Austin North Parents/Guardians and Students,

Our Return to School Plan is now posted and ready for your viewing. Currently, our Proposed Return to School Date is September 8th. Once this date is approved, we will post the new 2020-2021 Calendar on our website.

What can I do now? Now is a great time to respond to the ParentSquare email sent a few weeks ago. This is the primary communication method for the district to our families and it is critical to ensure we have your correct contact information on file. In addition, there is a form that is requesting your students preferred learning method for the 2020-2021 school year (Hybrid or Virtual).

When will my student be able to select their school schedule? Two weeks prior to the proposed start date, we will send students and parents/guardians a form to select their preferred schedule (AM or PM) even if they are remaining virtual. Please note, in an effort to balance the teachers rosters, your student may not receive their preferred schedule.

When can I register for the Grab and Go Breakfast Packs? Lunch Application is Now Open and you can apply for the Free and Reduced Meal Program in order to receive the Grab and Go Breakfast.

When can my student pickup a Chromebook? One week prior to the proposed Return to School date, an email will be sent out with the date and times for each grade level to pickup Chromebooks. If you have not returned the Chromebook assigned to you last year please return it as soon as possible.

How will my student know what to do and where to login? The Virtual Learning Expectations Guide will be posted on Thu. August 27th to our website under Student Resources. We will send an email to All students once the guide is posted. One week prior to the Return to School date, a Quiz will be emailed to your student and every student will be required to respond.

Will my child be able to meet their teacher prior to school starting? Yes, once the rosters are complete the teachers will begin sending welcome messages as well as a virtual meeting invitation prior to students returning to remote school.

We are new to Premier, what do we do? All new students and students that enrolled while we were remote in the Spring will receive a New Student Welcome Orientation email from their Teacher. Teachers will be hosting a virtual orientation prior to September 8th.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at

Our 2020-2021 Return to School Plan is underway...

Given our public health conditions in Travis County, PHS Austin North will suspend in-person education and deliver online instruction for the first four weeks of the 2020–2021 school year. On July 13th we sent our families a survey regarding remote learning and 2020-2021 school year related questions. With the new school year approaching, please take some time to take the survey if you haven't already done so. Please click here to be redirected to the survey. First day of School is August 18, 2020, remote only.

We’re developing plans in order to begin the school year strong but with safety in mind. Much of this will become clear once we announce our overall operational plans in late July. Please know that the health and safety of our students and staff are at the forefront of all of our decisions. We will continue to look to federal, state and local authorities for guidance and directives. Stay tuned for more details.

Until then, best wishes, stay healthy and safe.

I hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy.

As we continue to work through our units, I want to encourage our students to not give up! We still have a little over three weeks to continue working through our courses and we are still planning on providing summer school. We will be allowing students to earn more than 2 credits this summer. There is still time to catch-up and earn credits but you need to start now.

As a reminder, Premier High School is a mastery based program so if students don't have the required credits to get promoted they will remain in the same grade. Students need:

  • 7+ credits to get promoted to 10th Grade.

  • 13+ credits to get promoted to 11th Grade.

  • 19+ credits to get promoted to 12th Grade.

Please know that we are aware families are in a variety of stages - from thriving in a virtual learning environment while others are still trying to figure out how to organize the day and access any form of learning. All of those places are okay, each family has their unique challenges and needs and there is no one-size fits all. But, it's important that you connect with your teachers so we know your individual situation.

More information coming soon regarding:

  • End of year process for return of books, Chromebooks, reading resources.

  • Pickup personal belongings.

  • Summer School

  • Graduation Ceremony

Please know, whichever process we use, we will prioritize safety for all and adhere to all guidelines. I will communicate more when the plan is finalized.

Remote Learning Continues...

Dear Students/Parents & Guardians,

I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy. Last week Governor Greg Abbott announced through Executive Order that Texas schools will remain closed for the remainder of this school year. While this is difficult to hear, we support the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. But, I’m happy to say while the campus is closed, our remote learning keeps going strong and we’ll continue to do so until May 26th which is our last day of school.

In the last four weeks, we have come a long way! We have adapted to a completely new world. I know we are still struggling in many ways, but the work I see coming in from students and the communications between teachers and families is AWESOME! We are one community and we are coming together in this new learning environment for one great cause: children learning! Thank you to our staff and thank you to our "new teachers" – You our parents!

For now, let’s continue to motivate our students to continue engaging, working online and earning their credits. While difficult, it’s not impossible. I’m seeing students complete their courses, earn their credits and most recently we had two seniors meet their graduation requirements and this happened through our remote learning! We can do this!

Be safe, stay healthy and BE ONLINE.

Mrs. Phillips

Week 2 of Remote Learning

Dear PHS Students & Parents,

We sincerely hope that each of you are staying healthy and safe. As you may already know, school closure has been extended to May 4th but there is a possibility that the closure may get extended through the end of the school year. As soon as we know more, we will update our website and Facebook page.

Today marks our 10th day in a remote learning environment! I want to take this moment to congratulate all of our students that have learned to navigate through Google Classrooms and have logged-in to our Buzz system to work on their courses. We know that this is a challenging time for all of our students and families but we want to thank you for encouraging your students to keep going.

We have been very impressed with the level of engagement our students have been providing as well as their level of dedication to school, so thank you parents for being our partners. We know that they are not doing this without your support. Please don't hesitate to reach out for assistance from our teachers or myself, we are here to help. We have also heard from some of our students that they miss school and wish they were back in the classroom. This speaks volumes and we appreciate their comments.

By now, students should know how to:

  1. Login to Google Classrooms

  2. How to check emails in Gmail

  3. How to login to Buzz

Our teachers are working quickly to get familiar with new methods to prepare for tutorials next week. If students need help with their coursework or simply want to check-in with a live teacher, next week will be a great opportunity to do so. Our teachers will be emailing students designated times and google hangout meeting links to provide live instructional support. Our staff is also working on a new schedule in order to be available to our students in the evening. Our teachers have been amazing, the level of dedication they have towards our students is truly exceptional.

Please continue to be patient and know that the teachers will be flexible with you and your student. If you have multiple students or technology demands that are making it difficult to participate in remote learning please let me know. We have Chromebooks available and our district has ordered hot spots should our students need wifi.

If you are working with paper-based learning packets, those can be picked up and dropped off on Mondays from 10 am - 3 pm. Please reach out to your teachers to determine which packets your students need and please return the completed packets during pickup. As always, please let me know in advance that you will be coming to the school.

On Monday, we begin week three of remote learning. Please continue to encourage your students to login every day and continue to work on their courses every day. Students now have the opportunity to test every day, this is what they have been asking for all year long, so please take advantage of all the flexibility that our district is allowing us. Work on your courses, review with your teachers, take yours tests and earn those credits!

As a friendly reminder, Premier High School promotes students to the next grade level based on course completion of core courses and the number of credits they have. For more information on credits required please visit our Student Handbook.

Enjoy these cool evenings. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or if you need help at

Stay safe and stay healthy!

Special Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

We have been receiving many requests from parents and students to expand the testing schedule. We understand the need to be more flexible for our students in order to offer them additional testing dates and times. Unfortunately, due to staffing at our campus we are unable to expand the testing schedule at this time due to budgetary reasons. What can you do to help? Please ensure your student comes to school each day. Did you know that by meeting the 90% attendance rule per student, we can increase our school budget! When students miss days, they not only hurt themselves academically but our campus budget is impacted as well. By increasing our attendance to 90% which is the requirement for each student, we can potentially hire more staff to help our students with testing, tutoring, increase classroom teaching, and/or admin support. Contrary to popular belief, because we are an open-enrollment charter school, we do not receive funding from property taxes, our only funding comes from charitable donations and average daily attendance (ADA). It's important that you speak with your child and emphasize the importance of coming to school each day, this will help their academics and help increase resources to help them achieve their goals!

Campus Testing Schedule Days and Times

  • School Course Test Days are Monday, Tuesday and Friday

    • AM Students 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    • PM Students 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Letter from the Campus Director:

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone was able to enjoy their holidays with family and friends.

As you know, the time has finally come and we are in our new school. Our team has been working hard throughout the Christmas Break to ensure we were ready to start the new year in a new space. We are all excited for our first day back tomorrow. Our new school is in the same shopping center but in Suite 300, three doors to the left.

On Tuesday, November 7, 2020 students should report to our new suite, #300. Faculty and staff will be ready to direct students to their classes.

We will host an open house in the next few weeks so that families can tour the facility and meet with teachers. More information will come soon.

Our main goal at Premier High School is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning to all our students. With a much bigger space, we are proud to be able to offer this opportunity to even more students and families in the Austin metro area.

Another focus was safety, with this comes change. Backpacks, shoulder drawstrings and large purses will not be allowed in classrooms. Purses must be no larger than 6x9, clear bags and purses will be allowed but cannot be larger than 6x9. Lunch bags are permitted but must be left on the Teachers Desk or in the Lunch Room. No Food or Outside Drinks will be allowed in classrooms. Student may bring a leak proof water bottle. Items also not allowed are blankets, students will be asked to leave their blankets in the office and will be returned home.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education and to deliver the truth, beauty, and goodness associated with the learning environment at Premier High School.

As always, if you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone. My email is and our phone # is 512-614-4537.

It’s official, on November 8, 2019, we completed the 2nd six weeks of the year! Parents, please watch for progress reports in the mail. If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact teachers. You can locate your teacher’s emails on our website at

You will notice that work completed includes work from the 1st six weeks. It’s important to note, that students should have a total of 20-24 tests completed in at least two courses by now.

As a reminder, at Premier HS each course is divided into 10 units. Units 1-5 represent the first semester of a course and units 6-10 represent the second semester of a course. After completing a unit, the student takes a test. If they pass that test, then they continue onto the next unit in that course. In order to graduate on time, students are expected to complete 2 units per week.

Specific things that you can help to ensure you child is performing:

· Ask your student if they have set weekly goals with their teacher.

· At the end of each week, ask your student for their weekly congratulation slips.

· Communicate with their teacher.

Areas of concern continue to be attendance, cell phones and dress code. Please visit our campus website for specific policies and a copy of the Student/Parent Handbook at

Attendance Challenge! Parents, we need your help.

We at Premier High School North Austin are dedicated to the success of our students. Daily attendance is extremely important, when students improve their attendance, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating. As we enter our 3rd period of the school year we are announcing an Attendance Challenge and rewards to motivate our students and help improve attendance. As you know, PHS North Austin is a Title 1 Charter School so funds are tight but we won't let that stop us! With your help we can provide better rewards for our students so we are asking for volunteers and donations of any kind.

This 3rd 6 six weeks we are challenging our students to help improve the schools attendance by 10% to achieve 92% attendance.

Rewards for our Challenge:

1) Students with Perfect Attendance and Students with Most Improved will receive a Sundae Power Hour (Yay! Ice Cream)

2) The Classroom with the Highest Attendance will receive Milk & Donuts.

3) Students with Fewer than Two Excused absences will be entered in an End of Semester Drawing. This is where YOU come in. We are asking for donations to help build TWO baskets full of goodies for TWO deserving High School Students. The more items we receive the more baskets we can make. Items can be candy, chips, gift cards, etc.

For questions or donation drop offs please contact Mrs. Phillips at or 512-614-4537.
